Ways to Help Students Get Started
Career Days
Is your school holding a Career Day? If so, invite your local TSPS chapter to be a presenter. They will gladly speak about the profession and may also bring field equipment for their presentations. Contact TSPS Public Relations Committee Chair, Connor Brown for more information.
Trig*Star
Trig*Star is an extra-curricular competition held each year across Texas. The timed exercise involves solving trigonometry problems using right triangle formulas and the laws of sines and cosines. It’s a perfect opportunity to introduce students to the surveying profession. Visit the Trig-Star website for more details or contact John Pierce to register your school/students for the competition.
SkillsUSA
SkillsUSA is a non-profit youth organization that facilitates trade and industry education, enhances curriculum, and involves all students. Land Surveying is one of the largest SkillsUSA competitions in the state of Texas and students that have competed in the land surveying program have received scholarships to college, passed certified surveying exams, and have easily found employment within the surveying profession. For more information visit skillsusatx.org.
